The Old Course at St Andrews is often referred to as the ‘Home of Golf’, dating back to the 15th century. It has witnessed the evolution of the sport and has played a role in shaping traditions both old and new. Every fairway and bunker have their own story to tell, with thousands of golfers from all over the world making the pilgrimage to St Andrews every year to simply just set foot on the famous green without even playing a round.

Partnering with the Old Course Pro Shop, we set out to create something that would truly stand out. St Andrews is home to seven golf courses and multiple pro shops, all offering their own take on golf apparel and branded merchandise. We needed something exclusive, premium, and deeply connected to the history of the game. The Old Course Hotel has welcomed golfers since 1968, and while the Swilcan Bridge and Road Hole are world-famous, we wanted to introduce a new chapter in its legacy. That’s where the Jigger Inn Collection came to life.

When Paul Robinson, PGA professional and former Tartan Tour winner, met with the Old Course Hotel team, they envisioned a collection that was more than just apparel—it had to tell a story.

With Paul’s Scottish golf roots and his experience playing the Old Course in the 2009 Boyd Quaich Tournament, he had the insight to craft a range that would resonate with golfers and visitors alike. In collaboration with Fenix XCell, a leader in high-performance golf apparel, we developed a custom collection that blends tradition with modern style.

The result? The 2025 Old Course Collection, a premium selection of apparel and branded merchandise that captures the essence of St Andrews. And we’re not stopping there—big things are coming in 2026.

The Jigger Inn: A Story Worth Wearing

A key inspiration behind the collection was the Jigger Inn, a legendary pub beside the Old Course Hotel. Originally a stationmaster’s house in the 19th century, it became a gathering place for local caddies—where they swapped stories, settled bets, and celebrated victories.

Today, the Jigger Inn is a must-visit stop for golfers, offering a taste of history along with its famous ales and traditional Scottish food. Our collection is designed to reflect this rich heritage, giving golfers a way to take home a piece of St Andrews’ character.

Today, as I ship parcels out into the snow, I’m reminded of a story that defines who we are at Fourteen Twenty-One.

Our very first customer doesn’t know this, but their order had an epic journey. It arrived via Dubai during the worst rainfall in UAE history—roads were flooded, embroidery machines shut down across the city, and transportation seemed impossible.

But where there’s a will, there’s a way. We removed our socks and shoes and swam (literally) to the office to collect the delivery and then drove to Sharjah, dodging submerged cars, to ensure the embroidery was completed on time, then sent the package onto Spain, where the customer received their Fenix Custom Apparel & Accessories on time!

That first order proved our commitment: no matter the challenge, we’ll find a way to deliver.

I could spend this time writing about custom clothing and premium fabrics, but let’s be honest—do you really want to read that? Instead, let me take you on a journey through the past five years of my life.

Some of you may enjoy hearing about my travels, others about my passion for golf, and perhaps a few will see how my experience working as a distributor for brands like Titleist, Ping, and Peter Millar naturally led me to sidestep into custom distribution here in the UK. Whatever your interest, I promise there won’t be any shop talk.


The Move That Changed Everything

On July 21, 2019, I boarded an Emirates flight from Glasgow to Dubai. It was my wife’s 30th birthday that day, though I wouldn’t meet her until a month later. I didn’t bring my golf clubs with me—I was burned out from years of working as a PGA professional and needed a break from the game.

Instead, I went with a different mission: work hard and make the most of every opportunity.

A month later, I met my wife at Asia Asia in Pier 7, a must-see spot in Dubai Marina for newcomers to the city. By then, I’d settled into Dubai life, and while golf wasn’t on my radar, I found myself investing in a new set of Titleist clubs— I’m back and forward between my Ping or Titleist driver.

What happened next? I started playing on some of the world’s most pristine courses. Dubai Creek Golf Club became a firm favourite, and is always my first recommendation to friends and family, it sits on the edge of Deira the old part of Dubai, it blends high end luxury with Traditional History, and the course is stunning.


A Wedding Day Tee Time

In August 2020, right in the middle of a global lockdown, my wife and I eloped at Dubai’s Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf—arguably the city’s finest hotel. But before we said “I do,” I had one last tee time. Emirates Golf Club’s 8th hole, with its view over the Marina skyline, will forever remain etched in my memory as the perfect setting for a wedding day morning round.

What makes Emirates Golf Club so special is its history. It was built long before Dubai’s iconic skyline rose around it, and its 8th hole offers an unforgettable view of the towering skyscrapers that have since become the backdrop of the course.

A Move to Abu Dhabi: Golf Heaven

After three years in Dubai, I relocated to Abu Dhabi and settled on Yas Island. If you love golf, Abu Dhabi has a lot to offer.

Yas Links: A course originally rumoured to have been designed as a private golf club, offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf, my favourite club house and a Sri Lankan Curry that I would put in the top 10 things best things I have ate in UAE.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club: Play here and you are surrounded by nature, Onyx roam everywhere freely, and the natural beach is home to resident dolphins and sea-turtles.

Yas Acers: Night golf under the stars in warm evening air is an experience like no other, this quieter club is a big hit with expats due to it’s accessibility, really good pizzas too.


Finding My Path

It was during my time in the UAE, working closely with brands like Titleist, Ping, and Peter Millar, that I realized my true passion for distribution. I saw firsthand how quality products could elevate a brand and create a loyal following.

That experience naturally led me to Fourteen Twenty One, where I could help other businesses tell their stories with bespoke apparel and accessories. While golf remains close to my heart, today I’m proud to serve a range of clients—from sports clubs to distilleries and hotels—by providing high-quality, private-label solutions.  I left with my wife, daughter and I new business.

Originally founded as a golf bag brand, we soon expanded into the custom market, crafting private-label apparel and accessories. Today, we work with a diverse range of clients, from sports clubs and distilleries to hotels, tour operators, and corporate brands. Finding clients in Scotland When we decided to hire a campervan, it wasn’t just for a family getaway; we had a mission to tell people we were here. As we pulled away from the rental lot, I could hear the unmistakable rattle of all the loose items inside the campervan. The constant clatter was somewhat annoying, and despite our best efforts, we never really got used to it.

Our adventure began as we travelled along the breathtaking Scottish coastline. With each stop, we introduced ourselves and shared our vision of bespoke golf apparel. Our first major success came in Spey Bay, where we secured our first customer. The Spey Bay Golf Club, recently acquired by LinksDAO—a Web3 collective using NFT funds—was an exciting opportunity for us. With around 38,000 members in the U.S., we were eager to collaborate and help them share their brand story .

We celebrated that night with a Chippie! I’m always proud the a Scottish Sausage Supper comes with 2 sausages as standard. My wife is a Geordie and I’m always disappointed in Newcastle when I’m given a single sausage, but that cold spring evening in Lossiemouth, I was not disappointed.

With the success of Spey Bay, we quickly made our way to Nairn Dunbar, eager to connect with more potential clients. As we travelled, we found ourselves making connections that would prove invaluable for our venture. Before we knew it, the dominoes began to fall, and new customers lined up, excited to collaborate with us.

Our journey took us through the stunning Cairngorms National Park, a place of majestic mountains, deep lochs, and ancient woodlands. It was a surreal experience, with the dramatic landscapes providing a breathtaking backdrop to our travels. Camping within this national park was both inspiring and challenging , as the temperatures dropped to around 5 degrees Celsius at night—quite a shock after our time in Dubai.

The campervan itself became a character in our story. The road and the rattle of the campervan added to the charm of our journey, with the constant noise of loose items creating a backdrop to our travels. We switched cassettes in the stereo and dealt with the beeping of the fridge, which felt louder in the quiet of the highlands. Navigating the narrow coastal roads was a challenge, especially as we maneuvered through charming seaside towns. The views of the sea were breathtaking, with waves crashing against rocky shores and the horizon stretching endlessly before us.

As we moved from town to town, we embraced each opportunity to introduce ourselves and share our vision.

This journey has shown me that while the road may be uncertain, with determination and the support of my family, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish. We may have set out in a campervan to promote our business, but what we found along the way was something far more valuable: a deeper connection with each other and the communities we visited.
